Things You Can Do to Be a Better Koi Keeper: by Phil Goulding, KOI International.
This workshop focuses on clean systems, water changes and fail‑safes, increasing oxygen, warm‑water care, feeding, and common retrofits like filters, pumps, bottom drains, skimmers, auto feeders, and aeration. How to be prepared and why it’s important to know your dealers, experts, and aquatic vets. A practical, straightforward session to help you keep your koi pond ready for anything.
More Than Just Koi – Plants that Complete the Pond: by Laura Webb and Edwards Greenhouse.
Discover how aquatic plants can transform koi ponds into healthier, more balanced ecosystems. This workshop highlights plant types that improve water quality and elevate the beauty of your pond. Learn practical tips for choosing and caring for plants that perfectly complement your water garden.

Keynote Speaker: Taro Kodama – “Stewards of Living Art: Behind Koi—History, Culture, and Breeder Philosophy.”
Mr. Kodama shares how Nishikigoi became “living art” in Japanese culture and what breeders are really thinking behind the scenes—from pairing decisions to culling, Tategoi selection, and raising through the seasons. I’ll also highlight stewardship as a relay: breeders create the standard, bridge people translate it, and koi clubs like PNKCA keep it.

Caught in a cycle of adding chemicals to your pond and looking to change your approach? Treatments can be an important strategy in disease treatment and prevention, but only as part of an informed approach to fish health through stable pond management. This workshop will introduce 5 aspects of holistic management to consider in your long-term planning to reduce disease risk and keep your pond environment stable and healthy.
The Koi Keeper's First Aid Kit: Identifying Illness and Practical First Step Treatments: Dr. Robert Martinez, DVM Certified Aquatic Veterinarian, Aquatic Veterinary Consulting and Services, PLLC
When something looks wrong with your koi, what should you do first? Panic? Google? Wait and hope it fixes itself? This talk will give koi keepers a practical first-aid approach to fish health. Learn how to recognize the early warning signs of illness, what behaviors should raise concern, and the first things to check in your pond—water quality, temperature, and life support systems. We’ll also cover safe, practical first-step treatments hobbyists can try at home, including salt therapy, heat support, and strategic water changes. The Goal: help you act early, act safely, and give your koi the best chance to recover.
Fire and Marbling: TheArt of American Wagyu – Dave Yasuda, Snake River Farms
American Wagyu is a hybrid of Japanese Wagyu and top-quality American beef. Dave has worked for Snake River Farms for 12 years, creating content and cooking demonstration. The class includes a cooking demo, grilling types and a sample of different cuts of Snake River farm’s beef.
5:30 – PNKCA Banquet- Happy hour, dinner, silent, live, and dessert auction, and awards. Vegan and gluten free meals upon request.
